Loren MccRory offered sessions on May 8 & 22.
Loren’s workshop, Night Write: Dream Share, focused on being in the flow and going with the flow. Experts say everyone dreams, whether they remember afterwards or not. In order to access these nether regions of creative consciousness, one might consider dreaming a state of mind. In Loren’s workshop, participants were encouraged to drop down into a semi-trance like state, where reality is less clearly defined and imagination reigns, where there is access to the same alpha state when we write as when dreaming.
Teal
by Christie Turano
There is a drawing toward, a lucid pull to an ocean of calm, and I am taken into the sea of aqua green, that is my country of Teal, a place I belong. I feel a deep resonance of joy and affinity, when I look at this color. This affinity is further made sacred because of a remembered conversation with my father about personal color choices and I told him of my love of Teal and he said, “You know Christie, Teal is your color.” Coming from him, who does not take ownership lightly made a deep impression in me. I have been told that my eyes mirror the color of what I wear: if I am wearing green my eyes reflect that and blue when I wear blue. Isn’t it like Teal to absorb and project two colors also favorites of mine, in the canon of colors. The changeability from one to the other and all the colors in between. The journey on the bridge, gently waking from each end of the span toward Teal.

The small hours,
before dawn cracks,
are open wounds for me.
I fear the unspoken
and vanish
like rose leaves
in glass jars.
As much as I love them all,
I can’t imagine loving them
any more than I do.
I am always a mother.
Look!
The dawn will
disappear this ghost
raven of truth
-quick like an animal-
you are.
Thank you for joining us to Write Around the World!
For the rest of the summer, watch our blog! We are sharing writing from AWA’s yearly marathon fundraiser, which happened this year all-online throughout the month of May.
We offer this series in appreciation for the incredible community of writers and workshop leaders that sustain us. If you’re inspired and would like to be part of the fundraiser, please donate!
